October has a theme this year, and the freezer got the memo. Pumpkin, warm spice, apples, a nip of rye, campfire marshmallow, and one candy-bar monster that's been green since the day it was churned. Nearly every flavor this month is either dressed for fall or dressed up for Halloween.
Even one of the classics joined in. Cookies in Cream, the most popular flavor on our always menu, put on its costume this month and came out orange. Same cookies, same cream, just dressed for the season. We're calling it Cookies in Scream, and yes, we're very pleased with ourselves.
October's featured flavor: Cookies in Scream.
The rest of the lineup is mostly your doing. Six of the flavors below came straight from the monthly flavor vote, and Banana Pudding pulled the most votes of anything that made the menu.
The October lineup
Sometimes menu:
- Rye & Apple Cake — we've done a lot with bourbon, but not much with its slightly spicier cousin, rye whiskey. So rye goes into a spice cake batter ice cream with an apple cinnamon ribbon running through it. It tastes like October looks.
- Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake (fan voted) — everything great about pumpkin pie (the pumpkin, the spice, the crust) combined with cheesecake. All gluten free. The official flavor of sweater weather, whether or not San Diego cooperates.
- Be My Frankenstein (fan voted) — our best base, naturally colored green for the season and loaded with all sorts of candy bars. For anyone who raids the trick-or-treat bowl early.
- Wizard's Buttery Brew (fan voted) — creamy butterscotch and vanilla ice cream rippled with a butterscotch swirl. Spell-casting abilities cannot be confirmed at this time.
- Purple Cookie Eater (fan voted) — chocolate chip cookie dough and Oreo cookie pieces. When the Purple Cookie Eater comes calling on Halloween night, what are you going to do?
- Banana Pudding (fan voted) — a lot of bananas infused into our creamy base, a bit of vanilla, and gluten-free vanilla wafers for crunch. All 100 percent natural. Your top pick, and it earned its spot.
- S'mores 2.0 — roasted marshmallow and graham cracker base with a rich fudge swirl. Campfire season, minus the smoke in your hair.
- PB Maple Latte — peanut butter and maple syrup combined with coffee, plus a swirl of house-made peanut butter maple syrup ribbon. Pumpkin spice gets enough attention this time of year.
Hold the Cow:
- Vegan Coconut Ube (fan voted) — ube, the purple root vegetable from Asia (to us, it tastes like buttery popcorn), in our coconut base. Naturally purple, so it's basically already in costume. Fully vegan.
- No Cows Were Used in This Vanilla — an impossibly smooth and creamy, 100% plant-based vanilla. Fully vegan.
Already in the case
October snuck up on all of us, so most of this lineup is already scooping. A couple of flavors may still be finishing their trip through the freezer, so if you're after something specific, check the current flavors page before you head over.
Come find us in North City or Torrey Highlands this month. Costume optional.
