Shipping ice cream, explained.
Everything you (or the person you're sending a gift to) might want to know about how we ship handcrafted ice cream across the country. Delivery windows, dry ice, what to do if something melts, and the rules we follow to make sure your pints arrive frozen.
1.Where we ship
We ship overnight to all 48 contiguous United States. Every order, every zip code, same overnight service — no slower transit for the farther-away orders. The cooler holds frozen for as long as overnight transit takes, and will be ok on your porch for a little bit if you are at the office when it is delivered.
What we can't ship to. Alaska, Hawaii, US territories (Puerto Rico, USVI, Guam), PO boxes, and APO/FPO addresses. Overnight shipping to these destinations either isn't available or runs longer than our coolers can guarantee.
2.Shipping schedule
We ship overnight Monday through Thursday only — that's how packages avoid sitting over a weekend if there's any carrier delay. The live estimate below is computed from today's date and skips upcoming blackout days automatically.
3.Inside the box
Every order ships in the same packaging system, designed to hold frozen well past the overnight transit window. Here's what's in the box:
Corrugated outer box
Cardboard outer with our branding. Built tough for overnight air.
Insulated green foam inserts
High performing plant based insulation. Easy on the environment, you can even melt it in water.
Dry ice slabs
Sized to your order — more for bigger packs, more again for hot zones.
Your ice cream
Hand-stacked and wedged so nothing moves in transit.

The box is recyclable, the insulation can be safely thrown away or even melted in your sync.
4.Dry ice safety
Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide — it's safe to be around, but there are two things to know:
- Don't touch it with bare skin. Use the included gloves, a kitchen towel, or grocery tongs to handle it. Direct contact can cause frostbite within seconds.
- Don't seal it in an airtight container. As dry ice sublimates (turns from solid to gas), it expands — a lot. Always leave it in a ventilated space.
The rest is easy: once you've moved your pints to the freezer, just leave the leftover dry ice in the cooler somewhere ventilated (garage, porch, even outside in shade). It'll fully sublimate within 24 hours, no waste.
The good news: Dry ice doesn't leave any residue, smell, or mess when it sublimates. Just open the package, move the pints to your freezer, and put the package outside until the dry ice is gone.
5.What to do when your box arrives
- Grab it from the porch promptly. Our coolers hold frozen past the overnight transit window, but the faster pints get to your freezer, the better the final texture.
- Open in a ventilated space. Because of the dry ice. You might see some white vapor — that's harmless, it's just sublimating CO₂.
- Pull the pints out and check the temperature. They should be rock-solid. If they're soft enough that your finger leaves a dent, see the next section.
- Move pints to your freezer immediately. They'll re-firm within an hour or two if they softened slightly in transit.
- Leave the dry ice somewhere ventilated. Garage, porch, balcony. It'll fully sublimate within 24 hours.
6.Our melted-on-arrival policy
Overnight shipping plus our cooler buffer means most orders arrive rock-solid. But when something does melt — usually a carrier delay or an unusually long porch wait — here's exactly what we do:
If anything in your order arrives soft, melted, or anything less than rock-frozen:
- Take a photo of the affected pint(s)
- Email it to info@wynstons.com within 24 hours of delivery with your order number
- We'll ship a full replacement pack at no charge, on our next shipping day
We don't ask for itemized receipts. We don't require you to send the original pints back. We don't bring it to a committee. If you say it arrived warm, we replace it.
7.Sending as a gift
- Ship to a different address. Just enter the recipient's address as the shipping address at checkout. Billing stays on your card.
- Pick your shipping week. Orders placed by Sunday 11:59pm PT ship Monday and arrive Tuesday. Orders by Tuesday 11:59pm PT ship Wednesday and arrive Thursday.
- Arrival notification. Provide the recipient's email address and they will get an email the morning of delivery so they know to grab the box quickly.
- Pricing transparency. Gift packs do not show pricing on the included card — the recipient won't see what you paid.

The most-asked questions we get, all in one place.
How much does shipping cost?
Varies depending on your address, can range from $35-$75, we simply pass this through, we do not mark up our shipping costs.
How long does shipped ice cream last in dry ice?
Our packaging can comfortably exceed the overnight transit window so pints arrive frozen, with extra runway if a porch pickup is delayed. Once delivered, move pints to a freezer within an hour or two for best texture.
Can I track my order?
Yes — you'll get a tracking email the morning we ship, and the recipient gets an arrival notification on the delivery day.
What if I'm not home when it arrives?
The packaging holds frozen well past the overnight transit window, so a few hours on the porch is fine. We strongly recommend the recipient knows to expect it — we'll email them the morning of delivery.
Can I cancel or change an order after placing it?
If we haven't packed it yet (typically before noon PT on the shipping day), yes — email info@wynstons.com fast. Once it's packed and labeled, we can't modify it.
Where is the ice cream actually made?
Handcrafted in our San Marcos, California kitchen. Same kitchen that supplies our two scoop shops. Made by hand, hand-packed for shipping.
Do you ship the same pints you serve in the shops?
Yes — exact same recipes, same ingredients. We don't make a separate "shipping" formula.
Can I ship dairy-free ice cream?
Absolutely — our Hold the Cow line ships in the same packs and at the same prices.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Yes. The outer cardboard recycles curbside. The insulated green foam inserts can be safely discarded or even melted in water.
Do you ship internationally?
Not at this time. Our packaging limit doesn't accommodate international shipping. We may revisit if cross-border cold-chain options improve.
Can I add a gift receipt without prices?
Yes — gift packs ship with cards that don't show pricing. The recipient won't see what you paid.
